Pollen warning service for Styria
Pollen count forecasts are an important tool for doctors and pollen allergy sufferers. A network of pollen monitoring stations has existed in Austria since 1975, and in Styria pollen counts have been analysed since 1982. Since 1993, the pollen warning service has been carried out and subsidised on behalf of the Styrian provincial government.
Measurements of the pollen count as a basis for the current forecast have been possible for decades using the internationally standardised BURKARD pollen trap. Based on many years of observation and experience, combined with meteorological data and knowledge of flowering behaviour and flowering rhythms, our pollen count forecasts are valid for the greater Graz area as well as the regions of (southern) eastern Styria and the eastern part of Upper Styria.
Our task is to provide up-to-date information on the start and duration of flowering of allergy-relevant plants as well as the daily and weekly maximum pollen loads.
